Babu Chemical Engineering Department Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani333031(Rajasthan) India ________________________________________________________________________ Abstract Biofiltration of off gases containing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is a reliable and cost effective technology for VOCs removal. As most of the enterprises operate in the periodic conditions, a model is developed based on the transient conditions. In the study, a Linear Driving Force (LDF) model is used which takes into account the adsorption of pollutant in the support phase and the rate of biodegradation. The rate equation is given by the modified three-parameter Monod-type expression. The results are compared with the earlier and experimental data as reported in literature. It is also observed that dispersion coefficient plays a significant role in the removal rate of VOCs.

Simulation Studies on Transient Model for Biofilter operated in Periodic Mode

Biofiltration of off-gases containing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is a reliable and cost effective technology for VOCs removal. Due to many inherent advantages, most of the industries operate biofilters under the periodic conditions (highly transient). Taking the importance of such operation into account, a model is developed based on the transient conditions. In this study, a Linear Driv...

Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation of Light Propagation in 2D Periodic and Quasi-Periodic Photonic Structures

Ultra-short pulse is a promising technology for achieving ultra-high data rate transmission which is required to follow the increased demand of data transport over an optical communication system. Therefore, the propagation of such type of pulses and the effects that it may suffer during its transmission through an optical waveguide has received a great deal of attention in the recent years. We...

Mathematical modeling and simulation of hexane degradation in fungal and bacterial biofilters: effective diffusivity and partition aspects1

Mathematical modeling in the biofiltration of volatile organic compounds is a valuable tool for performance prediction and in scaling up. Majority of the published models include parameters obtained from fitting experimental data, thus masking their real influence as they are lumped generally. The present work aims to evaluate experimentally some of the most relevant parameters including kineti...

Robust Sliding Mode Controller for Trajectory Tracking and Attitude Control of a Nonholonomic Spherical Mobile Robot

Based on dynamic modeling, robust trajectory tracking control of attitude and position of a spherical mobile robot is proposed. In this paper, the spherical robot is composed of a spherical shell and three independent rotors which act as the inner driver mechanism. Owing to rolling without slipping assumption, the robot is subjected to two nonholonomic constraints. The state space representatio...
